The Forgotten Provider
We are getting closer to opening. The regulations are overwhelming. It is nearly impossible to get anything completed. I have had so much help though. I am blown away be how much everyone believes in my mission and what I am trying to do. As I go through the day and order endless supplies I am constantly reminded how special it is to be a chiropractor. I never really needed any of these things. I can also understand that every aspect of healthcare is important. I love that now I can treat my patients from top to bottom, from left to right, and from inside out. To be an effective provider this is an important concept to understand. Every disease process has many facets to its underlying etiology. I feel that I am now in a position to address all of them! I was recently invited to the Standard Process headquarters in Wisconsin. I have never been to Wisconsin before and I have to say it is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. I was in classes with every branch of the healthcare team and I heard many amazing stories. It refueled my love of nutrition!! I was so excited to get home and start implementing everything I learned. I am hoping to be able to offer some community learning opportunities. I think this is an important message to get out there. Small changes in diet can make huge changes in health. I am still shooting for the first part of November, but we are taking appointments now so come on by and pick up your paperwork or see our portal. There is a link on this site.

Another week has gone by and not much has changed. We are still going through endless amounts of paperwork, training, phone conversations and nothing ever seems to get done. It is actually impossible to complete a task. One thing depends on another and so on and so on. I have completed my board certification in pain management since my last check in and that is exciting. This will allow me to provide joint injections to my patients who are experiencing chronic pain. OF COURSE, you need to try chiropractic first. If you know me you know this goes without saying. I am currently trying to complete training on all of the new Medicare guidelines. I can certainly see why many providers are leaving Medicare all together. I have to admit it is extremely tempting not to except Medicare. I know this will only hurt my patients though and I would never do it. Medicare has developed a new plan (again) to pay providers according to quality. Overall, this is supposed to save the government millions of dollars. I think the way it works is there are now fewer providers excepting Medicare so fewer patients are actually able to use it so therefore.......savings.
I watch the news like everyone else and it makes me sick to listen to everything said about our current healthcare system. There are never any providers commenting on the issues. Why is that??? We have heard the candidates, the media, congress, and a few patients, but where are the people who actually work in the system? I am shocked how much focus we place on insurance. Having all of the insurance in the world will not make you healthy. It ought to be a crime how the president of the United States can force people to buy insurance therefore giving the insurance companies more money. Wow!! How can I get in on a situation like that? I wish he would force people to go to the chiropractor! That might actually have a benefit unlike a plastic card. Insurance means nothing if you cannot use it. The new idea of buying insurance across state lines as a means of saving money is laughable. The patient will save money on the insurance plan because there will not be any providers on the plan for the patient to go to. If you buy a plan across state lines be sure you are prepared to go across state lines for treatment! Providers must go through a rigorous and time consuming process to become credentialed with an insurance company. I will be documenting this process in this blog. After the months of work and effort to be credentialed by these plans there is no guarantee the provider will become a member of the plan, therefore the patient will now see an "out-of-network" provider. If this has ever happened to you I'm sure you realize how expensive this can be. As many of you know, I am opening a new practice and I have decided to document the whole process in this blog so people actually understand what exactly providers have to go through to provide care to our patients. I am also going to document my costs of medications and vaccines I use so patients can understand exactly who is making money on them. Lack of insurance is not the biggest problem we are facing in this country regarding healthcare. If we could save the massive amounts of money we are giving to the insurance companies for the hope of not having to use it and spend it on a gym membership we would actually decrease healthcare costs overall. The only silver lining to this ridiculous issue is the insurance companies are finally getting punished for their greediness and they are losing money hand over fist! MORONS!! I wish providers all over the country would begin to stand up for themselves and refuse to take this shit anymore! I am personally not going to let anyone else dictate the treatment of my patients to me. I am the one with the education and background to provide what is best for my patients without worrying about what some silly insurance adjuster thinks about it. If anyone needs proof of this they can ask any adjuster who has ever had to speak with me regarding a patient! They better pack a lunch if they want to go with me. My patients have always been and will always be first.
With much love and respect, M |
